Empowering Banyamulenge Youth through Education
Our community has noticed a troubling rise in school dropouts among Banyamulenge youth, despite their initial dreams of using education to improve their lives and communities. Factors like family responsibilities, lack of role models, disrupted schooling, frequent relocation, early marriages, language barriers, and adjusting to the Canadian job market and culture contribute to this issue.
In response, we’ve launched the Education and Career Guidance Mentorship Program to emphasize the importance of education, offer one-on-one support, and help our youth reach their academic and career goals, whether through university, advanced degrees, or vocational training. We're also planning a Private Sponsorship Program to reunite families separated by war, creating a stronger support system.
Our goal is to empower Banyamulenge youth, helping them build a brighter future for themselves and our community.

While Canada has commendably offered the Linc ESL program, there are instances where it may not fully cater to the unique needs of English learners especially when the teacher exclusively employs the use of English as the medium of instruction. This situation can be isolating for individuals who require additional explanations or guidance. To address these challenges, we have introduced an After-school English Conversation Program. In this program, participants engage with an instructor who is proficient in their native language, thereby facilitating a more comprehensive understanding of English. The instructor not only corrects and guides learners but also explains concepts in their native language, ensuring that they grasp the nuances of the language. This personalized approach fosters an environment where newcomers and seniors can see tangible improvement in their language skills, maintaining their interest and motivation in language learning, and knowing they have a reliable source to turn to whenever they encounter difficulties.
